Least Shocking Headline of the Day

Via WaPo, Even in visiting hurricane-ravaged Texas, Trump keeps the focus on himself:

As rescuers continued their exhausting and heartbreaking work in southeastern Texas on Tuesday afternoon, as the rain continued to fall and a reservoir near Houston spilled over, President Trump grabbed a microphone to address hundreds of supporters who had gathered outside a firehouse near Corpus Christi and were chanting: “USA! USA! USA!”

‘Thank you, everybody,” the president said, sporting one of the white “USA” caps that are being sold on his campaign website for $40. “I just want to say: We love you. You are special. . . . What a crowd. What a turnout.”

He he actually drop a turnout reference while touring a disaster area?  (Yes, he did–video at the link).

    Aw, you mean Glenn Thrush and Maggie Habermann wrote that “President Trump Looks Presidential” gossip article in the NYT for no reason?

    Trying to keep Trump’s ego inflated is like trying to blow up a shredded balloon.

  2. RGardner says:

    Whataburger maybe? (TX regional burger chain). I’m amazed no adjectives were used (just a crowd, not a great crowd, amazing crowd, whatever).

    BTW not making the news due to the disaster in Houston, but lots of flooding in SW Florida too.

    And let’s take a moment to reflect on the casual insanity of a president a few months in office having a campaign site that sells stuff (that he wears on duty) to raise money.

  7. SenyorDave says:

    @Hume’s Ghost: I’m surprised they don’t sell stuff Trump actually wore while doing his job as POTUS. Kind of like when pro sports teams auction off game used jerseys of players for charity.

    And let’s take a moment to reflect on the casual insanity of a president a few months in office having a campaign site that sells stuff (that he wears on duty) to raise money.

    Indeed. Pure class and not ethically questionable in the least.

  9. alanstorm says:

    @Hume’s Ghost: Nothing at all like your hero Obama’s perpetual campaign. Nope.

  10. @alanstorm: Indeed. Since it is impossible to defend Trump, let’s make an Obama or HRC reference.

  11. Hume's Ghost says:

    The detachment from reality indicative of that reply to me is so bizarre.

    1. Not a fan of Obama, nor is he remotely someone I consider a hero. My heroes are Thomas Paine and David Hume, among others.

    2. Obama did not campaign in office like Trump is doing. I have seen no other president in my lifetime go on a victory tour after winning to locations that voted for him; create a campaign site and hold fund raisers for election within a month or so of being elected; sell hats worn on duty to make money.

    Jimmy Carter, reviled by the right wing despite him living a life that makes him a virtual saint, had a peanut farm that he gave up to be president. Atrocious cretin Trump has already redlined the Secret Service budget because he spends every weekend funneling taxpayer money into the private resorts he still owns and will profit from.

    That was an especially bland, fact-free and content-free observation, even by contemporary conservative standards. Cheers.

  13. @Hume’s Ghost: Indeed all around.

    @alanstorm: It’s nothing like something that… didn’t… happen? What?

    Now I think I understand what Pauli meant by “Das ist nicht nur nicht richtig; es ist nicht einmal falsch!”

    What a tacky little man.

    But, if you elect a racist carnival barker, you get a racist carnival barker… Did anyone think he could show some class while doing this presidenting stuff?

  16. CSK says:

    @Gustopher:

    You have to remember that to his fan club, this sort of behavior is a feature, not a bug.
