Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: Space Cadet
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wants to go into space:
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has volunteered to become the first person sent into space by his country’s fledgling space programme.
“I’m ready to be the first Iranian to be sacrificed by the scientists of my country and go into space,” he is quoted by state media as saying.
I think I speak for many people when I say that I’d be fine if that lunatic were off the planet. Permanently.
In the words of Pink Floyd, “Set the controls for the heart of the sun.”
I understand the Israelis have rockets. I’m sure they’d be happy to help.
Say what? No orbital capability? Just medium range ballistic missiles. Eh, good enough.
“I think I speak for many people when I say that I’d be fine if that lunatic were off the planet. Permanently.”
I think that all this focus on Ahmadinejad is distracting from the real problem with Iran. The Iranian office of the presidency is a relatively weak one, with the real power being held by Khamenei, the country’s spiritual leader. By the middle of this year Ahmadinejad will be term limited out of office and yet Iran’s foreign and domestic policies will remain the same.
@michael reynolds:
Actually, I’m pretty sure there are a lot of folks in the Iranian ruling bodies (let alone the people) who would be happy to donate a rocket to this cause.
Our first mammal sent into space was a monkey……I see a correlation here….
@matt bernius: Indeed.
Ahmadinejad is just a distraction..
If Ahmadinejad is so quick to see his participation as a “sacrifice”, he can’t be all that positive about the Iranian rocket program.
On second thought, he might be that positive about the Iranian PhotoShop program…
…but first he must have the Illudium pu-36 Explosive Space Modulator.
