Another ICE-Involved Shooting in Minneapolis
Breaking news.
Details are scant, but a video posted to Twitter shows ICE trying to subdue a person before shots ring out. The NYT reports: Live Updates: Federal Officers Shoot Person in Minneapolis.
Federal law enforcement agents shot a person in Minneapolis on Saturday, according to social media posts from state and local officials.
A post from the City of Minneapolis said that officials had no immediate details. The shooting occurred near the intersection of 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue, officials said.
The scene was cordoned off with crime scene tape, as dozens of protesters, some wearing gas masks and goggles, blew whistles. ICE agents from Enforcement and Removal Operations were on site, as were several agents wearing U.S. Bureau of Prison Uniforms.
Here is the main video that is available. It is unclear to me who fired, but clearly the man who was being swarmed by ICE operatives was struck and went from struggling to motionless.
I am no expert, but it seems more than a bit odd that shots were fired in this context, given the proximity to the victim of other agents. To my untrained eye, this strikes me as further evidence of some combination of inadequate training and far-too-itchy trigger fingers.

A man was shot and killed by federal agents in south Minneapolis this morning, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said.
Video shows several agents wrestling the man to the ground and shooting him multiple times.
And:
Department of Homeland Security officials said the man fatally shot by federal agents this morning in south Minneapolis was armed with a gun and two magazines.
Specifics on this will have to be provided, but one can see the outlines of a self-defense excuse for this killing as well. Hopefully, we will get real information on what led to the individual being tackled by ICE in the first place.

Just got off the phone with a friend in Mpls, he didn’t have much to add that the video showed, except that when Mpls police showed up ICE attempted to block them from investigating. ICE appeared to back down when the chief of police showed up and declare the area a crime scene.
Years ago, on Col. Lang’s SST blog where I occasionally commented under my then nom de blog, old gun pilot, there was another commenter who called himself Tyler, taking his name from the movie Fight Club character. Tyler was an ICE agent whose comments were both racial and incendiary. He frequently referred to President Obama by his skin color calling him Black Messiah. Tyler boasted we should be proud of our Scandinavian heritage, a code for white nationalism. He was aggressive in his comments about the “leftists and socialists” and spoke of a culture war as if he looked forward to it. He bragged that if the war came ICE was the perfect vehicle, it was loaded with trained ex-military, had the weapons and physical support to conduct military operations and even had its own air force. I’m afraid there are many more “Tylers” in ICE. If he’s still with ICE he’s living the dream.
DHS is already claiming self defense.
My take is this: I assume everything DHS, ICE, CBP, or anyone else in the Taco so-called administration says is a lie, until I see evidence to the contrary.

Hopefully the Mpls investigators have already spoken to the person in the red jacket. They can be seen—apparently holding a phone up to record—standing on the sidewalk directly behind the group before and during the shooting.
Lots of ICE apologists say “just don’t resist and obey the agents”.
I don’t know how I would react if I feared being detained without due process or the risk of being disappeared even if I cooperated.

Balls? It’s about power. Those with the power to stop it agree with it, so why would they stop it?
Voters had the power to stop it in November 2024, but they blew it. Harris said multiple times Trump would send in troops to attack Americans. Many Americans, prominent and less so, warned of Trump’s fascism, said Democrats had to be voted for to block him. They were ignored. So.
