A Curated History of White House Changes

Following a link from a story in today’s papers about the destruction of the East Wing to make room for President Trump’s Big Beautiful Ballroom, I came across the official White House website’s page devoted to the building itself.

The timeline is initially anodyne, reflecting the major steps along the way:

A couple clicks in, though, we get this:

I’m old enough to remember when Republicans, myself included, criticized the Obama White House for turning the site into an extension of their election campaign. But the Trump White House has taken that to a whole new level. It’s really something to see.

    I had to reach for an absurd fictional character with legendary neuroticism to find a comparison.
