Gregor Mendel’s Grant Proposal Rejection
Via Thoreau, I see this oldie-but-goodie [PDF] in which the application of a Gregor J. Mendel for a modest grant to investigate the assortment of traits in the common garden pea is summarily rejected because he is unfamiliar with previous literature, the unlikelihood that the pea is a good subject, and the fact that Mendel lacks an advanced degree and an adequate publication record.
Expected -he was a Catholic priest(?).
