Not What the Military is For

Representative Comer doesn't understand much, it would seem.

This clip is a few days old, and I will certainly acknowledge from the top that James Comer (R-KY01) has done nothing to suggest he is someone worth listening to. Well, at least, he had never struck me as someone who has anything intelligent to say about much of anything, so while the content of his speech is unlikely to teach us anything of value, the fact that he occupies one of 435 House seats, and worse, is Chair of the House Oversight Committee means that he is unfortunately a significant player in our government.

It is noteworthy that one, he endorses the use of troops in US cities, and two, that he does not understand what US military personnel are for. While I understand that US military forces have subdued and secured cities in various foreign lands over the years, including some level of patrolling said cities, they have not been “walking the streets trying to reduce crime.”

US military personnel are not trained in law enforcement, nor is their mission crime reduction.

Such notions are a disservice to service members, citizens, and those who actually do law enforcement and crime reduction professionally.

Meanwhile, Comer will get to yet again demonstrate his intellect and acumen later this week. Via The Hill: Comer says Justice Department will start sharing Epstein files this week.

No doubt we will get to the bottom of all of this forthwith.

Maybe Gavin Newsome can announce that he is sending a contingent of the California Guard to Comer’s district to reduce the high crime rate there.

    Let the farce continue.

You know, DC has only 7,000 residents. With a few more states chipping in each DC resident can have their own national guard member to police their every move. Then we can all feel safe. (Maybe we can just quarter each guard member with that resident.)

    @Joe: 7,000 = 700,000. Who knew zeros mattered?

It’s only a matter of time before Comer says that the military should be used against Hunter Biden and the Biden Crime Family(TM).

As for the Epstein files, Comer spoke to reporters yesterday about Bill Barr’s closed-door testimony to the congressional committee, saying that trump is clean but of course Biden is corrupt:

Barr said he’s never seen any information uh that, that showed that he was in the files and that he would, he would be shocked if there was anything pertaining to President Trump that was negative that the Biden administration wouldn’t have leaked out prior to the to the presidential election.

Thank you for pointing this disservice out. ‘Tis a pity that service members and law enforcement professionals continue to vote heavily for Republicans.

Did y’all notice the dodge embedded in “begin to release the Epstein files”?

“begin” is doing a lot of work here. I expect a few files will be released – ones that aren’t damaging to Trump or other Republicans. Documents that do mention prominent Democrats (in a way that doesn’t really prove any wrongdoing, of course, but they can use it as a pretext).

So then, a few months later, they wiill say, “We released the Epstein files”.

This is how they lie. It’s quite effective. I don’t know what the counter to it is.

  7. Assad K says:

Given that they’ve had a thousand-plus agents ‘reviewing’ the files, can they even be considered reliable any more?

Dearest Comer, surely you’ve checked with those Guard units regarding their desire to re-enlist, right? You wouldn’t possibly be pushing a policy that the rank-and-file actively both dislike and know is objectively wrong, would you?
Comer’s “I am not a fascist I swear” T-shirt is asking more questions than it answers.
