Via NPR: Trump Dinner Menu: Tax Cuts
The guest list for Tuesday’s dinner includes Sens. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.; Joe Donnelly, D-Ind.; and Joe Manchin, D-W.Va. All three are up for re-election next year in states that Trump carried by wide margins.
If Trump wants to get a major bill through congress, this is the kind of action he will have to undertake. Courting opposition Senators from states he won is a smart move (indeed, a standard one for such a situation).

I can’t hardly believe he thought of it himself.
@Mister Bluster:
You can be sure he didn’t. The only way he’d invite them on his own is if they slobbered over him, which they may well have done without meaning it, knowing how easily he can be manipulated.
All these Democrats willing to deal with the biggest racist to ever occupy the White House. Sitting down to dinner with #Literally Hitler.
What does that say about them?
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was John Kelly who was behind this move, meanwhile…
What does it say about our country that this disgrace became president in the first place, thereby forcing Democrats and decent Republicans to have no choice but to deal with him if they want to get anything done…
@Mister Bluster: @CSK: Indeed, I put “This White House” and not “The President” in the headline.
If the Democrats do not sit down to dinner with #Literally Hitler, it’s a good bet that self-absorbed, sexist, racist, REPUBLICAN President Pork Chop Pud would be breaking white bread with the Ku Klux Klan and American Nazis…or maybe Republicans.
Take your pick.
I’ve got no problem with these Dems sitting, talking and listening. What’s important is what they do when Trump presents a tax plan that eliminates the inheritance tax and deductability of state taxes…
To the extent this is true, it’s a bad thing.
@wr: What about removing the home mortgage deduction? That stays in the White House loses everybody with a home.
