I like that list. It has a lot of “how the world really works” stuff, as opposed to “all else being equal” abstract modeling.
Sorry, Chief, but anyone who supports a VAT automatically gets a F-minus grade from the University of Economic Reality.
@Tsar Nicholas:
That’s interesting. I’ve always hated the VAT because I thought it was a sneaky tax, one that fooled people into thinking they were getting a net reduction. I got that primarily because so many rightists said “let’s get a VAT and reduce our taxes!”
I don’t know. Maybe I’m starting to turn, and I’ll get on board with sneaky. It would be best to bring our tax revenues up with traditional tools … but not much seems to be happening on that front.
For someone purported to be a labor specialist, he appears to have done little work on mass unemployment. Skimming his work, he appears to be in the same New-Keynsian/Neo-classical mold as virtually every other economist in Washington.
Question: how can a student of macroeconomic schools which don’t even acknowledge the existence of involuntary unemployment be an expert on employment?
