Steven L. Taylor is a retired Professor of Political Science and former College of Arts and Sciences Dean. His main areas of expertise include parties, elections, and the institutional design of democracies. His most recent book is the co-authored A Different Democracy: American Government in a 31-Country Perspective. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas and his BA from the University of California, Irvine. He has been blogging since 2003 (originally at the now defunct Poliblog).

I won’t engage in false modesty–I do know that there is a skill in composition, in knowing the light, in patience, and in knowing the technical settings on the camera–all of which I continue to try and hone! I will still admit that the Canon R8 that I recently acquired, like a lot of the newer cameras, has amazing autofocus–which helps a ton with birds!
@al Ameda: I acquired a serious photo printer in the last year, so yes! I eventually want to learn to make my own frames, but am not there yet. I have fantasies of being able to sell some of my work.
I have started to learn how to mat and frame my photos.

The autofocus capabilities of modern cameras are nothing short of incredible and amazingly useful for that type of shot.
