Caching in
Help us help you help us.

As part of the ongoing attempt to figure out why comments are not always immediately seen and counts can be off, I have (as far as I can tell) turned all caching off on the site. I say “as far as I can tell” because there are many different places where caching (saving compiled, static versions of our dynamically generated WordPress pages) occurs: in/via WordPress, on our web server, and on your browsing devices.
Here’s my ask: if you are still running into problems, can you comment on this thread with:
- A description of what you are experiencing
- The browser you are using
- The type of device you are using
- For extra points: if you can, clear your browser cache and let me know if it’s still an issue
Once we run for 24 hours without a cache and no major issues, I’ll begin slowly reenabling things.
Thanks so much for all your efforts on behalf of the site.
ETA: This posted immediately on a Chrome laptop.
The only way that I can check how OTB is behaving today is to make this post.
Today in History.
I’m sure that we all remember this event:
ETA: Success! This comment posted with no delay!
Recommendation for my OTB friends: When you post a comment, just walk away. Don’t keep posting, don’t keep refreshing, just be patient. You may slap your laptop around if that makes you feel you are doing something useful. But it is to your advantage if you make the posting process make you a better person.
@Mister Bluster:
That is an awesome use of this thread. TY for testing.

Today in History:
On May 21 996, Otto III was crowned Holy Roman Emperor.
@Matt Bernius:..
Always glad to help.
I have noticed that when I open the other two threads today that I sometimes have had to reload the page to make the comment count current.
ETA: Acidental alliteration.

I hesitate to post events way back when as I am never sure what calendar was in use at the time. Not to mention that I am too lazy to check it out.
All seems to be posting normally now.
