Katharine Webb Joyner
My wife Kimberly woke me a little before 2 yesterday morning to inform me that her water had broken and that it was time to drive her to the hospital. After 12 hours of trying naturally, another 14 of trying with the aid of an inducing drug, and two hours of hard labor, Katharine Webb Joyner was ultimately delivered by Caesarian section at 6:40 this morning. She was 7 pounds, 6.44 ounces and 18.5 inches at birth.
Mother and baby are fine. More to follow, including photos.
Needless to say, posting will be light for a couple of days.
UPDATE: Some early photos. I’ll post more to Flickr in the coming days. Given the lack of sleep and the ordeal, there aren’t yet any pictures of mom and baby that she’d authorize for public consumption.
Congratulations and all the best, James! Nice job sneaking in an extra tax deduction before the start of 2009 😀
God bless you and your family.
Congrats.
Congratulations LT

Congratulations, your world has now changed in ways you would have never expected. Daughters are special in many ways.
Yay, JJ, Kimberly & Kate! Let’s have plenty of baby blogging!
Many congrats, James.
At the very least, you’ll have another reason to
party… err… be up at midnight. All my best to your whole family.
Congratulations to you and your wife!
Enjoy your daughter and treasure each moment with her-they really do seem to grow up fast.
Congratulations and welcome to the world Katie. May it be full of love and joy for you.
Congratulations James. As for fiscal planning, well I’m afraid you’ll soon see just how screwed up our medical system is in that regard. But for now, just enjoy the goodness of a new life.
Blessings to the whole family.
We already have proof that Katie is one very smart little cookie — She came in time for Daddy to take the 2008 child tax deduction.
Congrats Papa! It’s takes a real Dad to sit in the delivery room and watch your wife deliver via C-section. I know because I had to endure it as well! Congratulate Mommy when she wakes up and give her plenty of sleep will ya? LOL
Congratulations! Your life has just been changed forever. May it be for the better.
James,
Congratulations to you, your wife, and your entire family. Send my best wishes and many blessings to all.
Congratulations, I had no idea you were even expecting! And she made it in time to claim on your 2008 taxes as well!
Best wishes to you and your family for the new year!
Don
I also had no idea you were expecting, but congratulations anyway. 🙂
Congratulations. Can’t wait to meet little Katie. Hope mom is recovering from the ordeal – sounds like it was a difficult one.
James — Congratulations to you and your wife. We’ll have to bounce our experiences off of each other as my wife is due today (probably will be late) with our first.
Hopefully Katie is figuring out that life is pretty damn good as there is now plenty of space to stretch out and food still comes when she needs it. I’m always amazed at how quickly infants learn, and I look forward to seeing how mine will develop, as I am sure that you are looking forward to Katie’s growth— enjoy, and have plenty of pictures 🙂
Congratulations James. Best wishes to you, your wife and your daughter.
That 2:00 AM wakeup for a 6:40 AM birth seems quite typical for some reason.
Congratulations James!
Congratulations James…. Best wishes for you and your wife and the new arrival.
You’ll enjoy a daughter… I have 3. The youngest just finished her first semester at MSU.
Congratulations James! All my best to you, your wife and your young daughter.

Welcome to your new life. May the newborn period go quickly, and may you never say (as we do) “I’m too old to be doing this.”
Congrats James, she beautiful! When will she be inducted into the ACUS family?
-Rachel K (yep, the one that left in May)
Congrats, James. I wish you and your family every blessing in 2009.
Congrats on the new addition. I would like to honor your new bundle with my favorite quote by Katherine Kersey:
“Children are given to us – on loan – for a very short period of time. They come to us like packets of seeds, with no pictures on the cover and no guarantees. We do not know what they will look like, act like, or have the potential to become. Our job, like the gardener’s, is to meet their needs as best we can: to give proper nourishment, love, attention, and caring and to hope for the best.”
Congratulations.
You and your wife’s lives have not just changed or gotten more complicated, they are now of a different nature.
Best wishes.
Congratulations to the Joyner family!
Wonderful — congratulations! Such an ordeal for your wife, however … she might need a little while (and lots of help at home!) to recover from that!
Many congrats!

James,
There could be no better way to start this new year. God’s blessing on you and yours.
Congratulations! I have a Katie too, she’s 18 now. I also have a new little first cousin once removed who was born on Saturday. Also by C-section. We need some stats: length, weight…
Like Emily Latella – nevermind on the stats…
Congratulations! Oh my! What a beautiful child. Godspeed.
Children are the sun, the moon and the stars to the man who can love.
