Re the good economy: Peter Turchin uses real median wage v real GDP per capita as his proxy for economic contentment. Over 40 years real median wages have gone up 40%. Wow! Up 40%! That’s a cumulative <1% per annum. Real GDP has doubled. Meanwhile the New Gilded Age has become blatantly obvious.
The MAGA are entirely correct to feel our elites have abandoned them. But voting for Republicans to correct this has been precisely the wrong thing to do.

Dems have their own stable of wealthy donors. Smaller and less ideologically active than the Kochtopus, but catered to by NYT and valued by the Schumers and Jeffries. And understandably so, no bucks, no Buck Rodgers. We need to get the top 9.9% to see that they’re also being effed over by the 0.1%.
And it’s going to be easy to repeat past mistakes. If Ds can gain some real power they’ll assume, as in 2021, that with Trump gone, that’s over and we’re back to normal. They once again won’t want to be accused of politically motivated investigations, or firings. I don’t see the country as ready for serious investigation and prosecution, much less a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, or a deMAGAfication campaign.

I don’t care to argue whether Ken White’s comments, or response were appropriate or not. I do ask myself whether they were of any value. I think Ken White felt that they were valuable to him. I guess I indulge myself sometimes, too. I’m not seeing much ability to move the needle.
I have such a different take on what changes someone’s political orientation. (And changing some people’s political orientation is what we need). I think social connection has a fair bit to do with it.
Insulting people probably isn’t going to advance social connections. And no, I’m not considering Musk reachable. I don’t think that will ever work now (I think it did work, and it is on ongoing effort by the Right, but Musk is unreachable to people like me.) But there are lots of other people in the world, and some of them are reachable.
I prefer to say things that invite people, not push them away. But, as I say, that’s not always what I do, I’m sure.
