It is sad when someone dies like Gerry Connolly who seemed to be a good representative. However, that makes three Democratic reps this session that won’t be available to vote: Turner, Grijalva, and now Connolly. Maybe it is time to put an upper age limit on Senators and Representatives.
Vis-a-vis Trump Junior running for the presidency: Suppose, as his father pointed out at his birth, he’s a loser?
The United States Constitution sets the minimum age for citizens to be elected to the House of Representatives at 25.
I suggest that the maximum age for Democrats be set at 100 and for Republicans be 30.
Since Trump and his lickspittles propose the outrageous theory that Trump can run for a third term in violation of the United States Constitution I see nothing wrong with my idea.
Sad news about Gerry Connolly, although not unexpected. A consistent advocate for the Federal workforce, and he was consistently ranked among the most effective members of Congress.
As I approach 60, 75 doesn’t seem that old these days, although I hope I’m no longer working when I get there. But cancer can get you regardless of age.
RIP, Mr. Connolly. May your memory be a blessing.
@Scott: We can’t expect parties that have no reason to believe that a non-incumbent candidate will fare as well as an incumbent to support term/age limits. Beyond that, we don’t decide this issue nationally. We can wish for whatever we want. We’ll get what Congress allows. It’s a republic, not a democracy.
