Who’s America’s Best Looking Attorney General?
President Obama says Kamala Harris is "by far the best-looking attorney general in the country."
So, President Obama said this:
President Obama assessed the beauty of California’s attorney general Kamala Harris, calling her “the best looking attorney general,” during remarks at a fundraiser in Atherton, California.
“You have to be careful to, first of all, say she is brilliant and she is dedicated and she is tough, and she is exactly what you’d want in anybody who is administering the law, and making sure that everybody is getting a fair shake. She also happens to be by far the best-looking attorney general in the country — Kamala Harris is here.”
“It’s true! C’mon,” he said as the crowd laughed, according to a report provided by a print reporter at the home of John Goldman, an heir to the Levi-Strauss fortune.
“And she is a great friend and has just been a great supporter for many, many years. She’s brilliant and she’s dedicated,” Obama said at a luncheon fundraiser benefiting the DNC.
This prompted BuzzFeed to publish a list of The 13 Hottest Attorneys General, all of them men.
Which prompted commenters to either respond with variations of, “Is this some kind of joke?” (Yes!) or inquire as to why some of the better looking female AGs weren’t on the list.
Biden looks too much like Steven Corell. My vote is with Janet Reno, but I guess she didn’t make the list because she is no longer AG.
The omission of either Harris or Florida AG Pam Bondi from that list renders it irrelevant.
I may not be a connoisseur of fine men, but many of those AGs are pretty goofy looking (especially #5), so I guess it is a big joke.
I’m with Doug on this one, although I appreciate Hello World’s sense of humor.
Bondi is a generic blonde. Harris is the living proof thats nothing better and nothing more powerful than mixture.
@Andre Kenji:
generic blonde
Bottle blonde, more likely.
@Doug Mataconis:
Kathleen Kane as well.
Yeah…Obama f’ed up on this…it’s wrong…period.
If Bush43 had done it I’d think the same thing.
He did, though it was mainly f’up of political carelessness. It’s kind of an adlib crutch he employs with some frequency when introducing folks (mostly men in fact) and it should have been obvious that given the right circumstances, it had the potential for a slow news day political outrage:
President Obama Routinely Calls Important, Accomplished Men ‘Good-Looking’
I suppose it’s not a mistake a president should make, but I really say Obama should be cut some slack on this one. I really don’t think it’s a big deal for the media to feast on, though I recognize he owed an apology to the AG.
