George W. Bush’s Statement On Killing Of Osama bin Laden
Former President Bush released the following statement shortly after President Obama spoke tonight:
Earlier this evening, President Obama called to inform me that American forces killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of the al Qaeda network that attacked America on September 11, 2001.
I congratulated him and the men and women of our military and intelligence communities who devoted their lives to this mission. They have our everlasting gratitude.
This momentous achievement marks a victory for America, for people who seek peace around the world, and for all those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001. The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done.
Politics aside, I don’t think there’s anyone in the country who doesn’t feel the same way.
I’m really glad Mr. Obama called Mr. Bush. I hope W has a non-alcoholic beer and grin on his face.
Couldn’t have been Bush…the words are too big and everything is spelled correctly.
Kevin… I am not a Bush fan, but his remarks were gracious and heartfelt. This is a good night for us all and a good time to put politics on hold for a few hours. 9.11 has to have been a crushing burden on Bush, and if that burden is a bit lighter now lets be happy for him.
Very Presidential….. unlike the Great Pretender.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how a president with class handles a statement.
And how a commentator with none responds.
I don’t see any justice in the fact that we’ve killed hundreds of thousands of innocents over the course of a decade in response to 9/11. This was really just Vietnam on a much larger scale, we felt we had (and had the right) to destroy the village in order to save the village. Hopefully the death of OBL will be the trigger for us to finally end our (amazingly admitted) modern day crusade.
