Here’s another Terri Schiavo joke:
Headline of tomorrow: Doctors say Terri Schiavo’s only chance for recovery is stem cell research. Protesters outside her hospice swap signs.
TRUTHFULLY: the joke only makes sense if you change it so that Terri could only be saved with EMBRYONIC stem cells – which require the destruction of an embyro. Many other souces of stem cells exixt, and right-to-life people DO NOT object to using them!
The right-to-die people do not care if you have to kill an embryo to potentially save another life.
The pro-life people do not think that any embryos should die so that other persons may live.
In other words: the jokester got the essence of the contrast between the issues entirely wrong, and in his mistake also revealed his calousness to life.
Stem cells – regular strem cells, not EMBRYONIC stem cells – might one day cure people like Terri. One day soon. Maybe she should be allowed to live until that day comes?
