Iraqi Prime Minister Confirms Assassination Attempt Against Him

Political instability in Iraq nearly became a reality earlier this week:

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s prime minister says a bombing in the Green Zone earlier this week was an assassination attempt against him.

During an interview with The Associated Press Saturday, Nouri al-Maliki said the parliament building or speaker also could have been targets but preliminary information suggests the bombers were trying to get him.

Al-Maliki says the bomb was supposed to go off when he visited parliament to address lawmakers but he wasn’t there at the time.

Thank goodness we’re getting the heck out of there at the end of the month.
