  1. Dog Shoots Man – NYT (gift). A story for your morning.

    The NY Post noted that “Growl play is not suspected.”

  2. This is to CSK… I am so sorry for all the pain you have had to suffer. There are some people that touch your soul a bit more maybe than others and you are one of those people to me.

    Considering fairness and accuracy in reporting I am noting here that the price of package of 24 Kroger brand sugar free cough drops has changed from $1.49 to $1.39. There is no net weight listed on the label. I suspect because cough drops are not food.

    I went to BJ’s this morning. The price of a gallon of milk is twenty cents less.

  5. I but my coffee from Amazon, and this year the cost of an 18 oz bag of ground coffee has risen from $12.00 to $16.00.

  6. @a country lawyer: I buy cheap Kroger brand coffee for my percolator. A 29 ounce can of ground coffee was full price 9.99, but often went on sale for 7.99. This was stable pricing for several years.
    Now it’s 13.99 for a 24 ounce can.
    Glad I don’t do soft drinks. Liquid gold.

  7. Here’s what gets me about talking inflation.
    Up until Covid, analysts and economists always centered on core inflation. Food and gasoline were excluded because of volatility. Not any more.

  10. @CSK: oof. I hope that losing the limb at least puts an end to all of this, and you’re able to recover swiftly. But oof.

    I had a grandmother who lost a leg to diabetes, and she was very fond of saying it was from a shark attack, or an escalator, or any of a large number of increasingly ridiculous claims. Gambling loss, guinea pig attack, used to be a pirate, etc.

    At Trump’s urging, Bondi says US will investigate Epstein’s ties to Clinton and other political foes

    — because nothing screams guilt louder than deflecting to “the other guys”

    And it could be another attempt to justify not releasing Epstein files from the DOJ. For example, the Epstein Files Transparency Act under consideration by the House states,

    The Attorney general may withhold or redact the segregable portions of records that—

    …(C) would jeopardize an active federal investigation or ongoing prosecution, provided that such withholding is narrowly tailored and temporary;
