IMHO no major policy shift.

Lose the goodwill of the Commons majority and you’re toast.
As ever since 1688.Burnham is a lot better at schmoozing and not being a wet blanket.
But the fundamental problems of budgeting, and the Labour Party (very understandable) mistake of promising no core tax increases remain.
As does the Labour Party delusions about the affordability of current pensions and welfare trends.

Data centers are responsible for a boom in fossil fuel power generation — that’s dirty, carbon-emitting, inefficient, noisy, and often inappropriately sited fossil-fuel-consuming power generation. The tech industry can’t wait the many years it takes to bring new utility power plants on line to supplement the grid, so coal-fired power plant retirements are being delayed and data center developers are finding ways–inefficient ways–to build their own fossil fuel power plants behind the meter much more quickly.
Today from the NYT, New Amazon Data Center is Set to Have the Most Polluting Power Plant in the U.S., with some bolding added:
Amazon is investing in a natural-gas-burning power plant, as part of a huge data center in Texas, that could become the largest single source of climate pollution in the United States, the company confirmed Friday…
Amazon’s emissions have gone up each of the past several years. And the Seattle-based tech giant has acknowledged that rising emissions from A.I. data centers could get in the way of its climate goals…
Artificial-intelligence data centers require immense amounts of energy to run the trillions of calculations needed to create A.I. systems and services. And the scale and urgency of their energy demands is fast exhausting the electricity-generating capacity of the nation’s power grid.
To avoid years of potential delays in hooking up to electrical utilities, data-center developers are increasingly choosing to build their own dedicated, on-site power plants instead. And gas-burning plants are usually the fastest and easiest to build.
President Trump has supported the construction of power plants like these for data centers and has emphasized “energy dominance” by promoting oil, natural gas and coal over renewable…
Amazon said it had recently acquired the Pecos County site, where a developer is building the gas-burning power plant. The plant would use 35 natural-gas turbines to generate up to 7.65 gigawatts of power to feed Amazon’s planned data center, according to permits for the project.

otoh, Iran has major economic problems, which affect both internal politics and Iran’s regional influence and sustainable military capability, and needs sanctions relief.
Also, the GCC have no interest in ceding a permanent Iranian control at Hormuz, and they are actors with agency.The Iranian problem is that a deal requires them to stop shooting; and if then they shoot at ships that don’t pay or take the southern track, there is likely to be a response.
Iran, in the medium term, also needs the Straits to be open.
A point people tend to miss.
Iran can close the Straits.
So can the UAE.

Apple is considering making people pay for advanced Siri features — which sounds pretty awesome to me, lock as much of that AI shit behind a paywall and it means it can be turned off.
Alas, the reporting is that they want to tie it to iCloud+, which I have for storage of photos and artwork. So, that sucks. Hopefully they will run the numbers and make it a different tier.

I’ve been trying to get my meditation practice going again, since it helps with my anxiety, and it’s been going well — 20 minutes a day, almost every day, and I’m calmer and more serene and all that shit.
And bloodthirsty.
Just a simple, straightforward acceptance that the world would be a much better place if certain people just weren’t in it. No desire to actually be the one to make that happen, but I would certainly not be bothered if certain people were taken out back and humanely put down.
Am I meditating wrong?
Before anyone asks, I’m focusing on my breath and not reciting a kill list as a mantra in a dull monotone until it just becomes sounds.
