Speaking of Winning…

Some new polling on the economy.

While we are, no doubt, the hottest, most respected country of all time, it would appear that the word is not making it to the great unwashed masses of the heartland. For example, NPR reports, Poll: Most Americans have the summer blues about Trump and the economy.

As concern over gas prices remains high, President Trump’s approval ratings continue falling to record lows, especially over his handling of the economy, according to the latest NPR/PBS News/Marist poll.

Only a third of Americans say they approve of how Trump is handling the economy — three points lower than the worst marks given to former President Joe Biden during his term.

Just 36% say they approve of Trump’s overall job performance, while 59% say they disapprove, which is the widest gap Trump has faced during either term in office.

No doubt this is all the result of the wokesters who work at Marist College, as added and abetted by failing NPR.

Surely, the solid, real Americans at Fox News would not let such hideous distortions come to pass! Some, here’s the correction via FNC, Fox News Poll: Most rate the economy negatively, including half of Republicans.

Oops.

It’s less than five months until the midterm elections and voters are not happy with what’s in their wallets.

Only 12% say they are getting ahead financially, most think the economy is in bad shape, more than half think President Donald Trump’s policies benefit people who have money, and their outlook on the economy is negative.

[…]

Some 59% of voters feel pessimistic about the economy, worse by 4 points compared to last June (55%). That’s a stark contrast from the bullish views during Trump’s first term, when 57% felt optimistic (June 2019).

Such an ungrateful nation! Did Trump not provide a UFC spectacular for at least all the Paramount+ subscribers? Did Monster Energy Drink not get an economic boost by having its wares advertised on the White House lawn?

Is not the reflecting pool a lovely shade of Army green to celebrate the Department of War’s lethal lethality and its victorious MOU?

Surely the need for celebratory ballrooms and triumphal arches has never been higher!

Who needs cheap beef when there is just so much cake out there to eat?

The Trump era has surely sharpened your snark, in a good way.

Will any of it matter, though? We’ve seen a president who fails in business, fails in morality, fails with the economy, and fails with war….did I leave anything out? He still wins. He still gets what he wants. I don’t understand it, but it is the way it is.

I would be so happy if we could connect these dots with the general election:

    * Tax cuts for billionaires reduce revenue
    * Hobbyhorse cuts to things like USAID did not make up the difference. Not even close.
    * As a result, the debt is increased.
    * Increased debt leads to inflation.
    * Things like tariffs and oil wars drive up prices even more.

It doesn’t seem all that complicated to me, but there is a giant cottage industry out there devoted to debating/distracting every single point.

  5. @DAllenABQ: Thanks! I have to admit, I was pretty pleased with the snark in this one.

@Sleeping Dog: It certainly doesn’t hurt.

@HelloWorld: It is a fair question. The first empirical test will be the midterms. But as a general matter, it will take a while to really know what mattered.

@Jay L. Gischer: It would be nice.

More food for thought: International relations by stock market.

He couldn’t figure the clasp out on the Medal of Honor so he just tied it on the Major’s neck.

I am very, *very* tired of the “winning.”

    I’m with you on this.

Since January 2025 I’ve wondered if ‘it’s the Culture Wars, stupid’ was at least as important as ‘it’s the Economy, stupid,’ in motivating voters. I think that perhaps the balance is shifting away from Culture Wars back to the Economy, with the widening gap between multi billionaires (and trillionaires) and the bottom 90% finally becoming a factor.

@al Ameda: We need donations, so we need to get the not quite top 9.9% to understand they’re also being screwed by the .1% or .01%. The 9.9 pay heavy taxes, the .01 don’t.
