Yoon Impeached
South Korea demonstrates itself to be a more mature democracy than the United States.

Reports the BBC: South Korean MPs impeach president over martial law attempt.
South Korean lawmakers have voted to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol over his failed attempt to impose martial law, which sparked massive protests across the country.
He was suspended after some members of Yoon’s own People Power Party (PPP) voted with the opposition – though the decision still needs be ratified by the constitutional court.
[…]
On Saturday, the impeachment motion reached the two thirds threshold needed to pass after 12 members of Yoon’s party voted in favour.
This was the appropriate action and I sincerely hope that knowledge of the appropriate way to deal with an attempted overthrow of a legally ordained government haunts Mitch McConnell’s sleep for the rest of his days as he continues to find himself having to do things like defend the polio vaccine and warn us about how dangerous the world is now.
Also of note in the general saga of South Korean leaders who tried to foment the coup, via CNN: South Korea’s ex-defense minister attempts to take his own life as presidential office raided in martial law fallout.
The higher military staff are being investigated for following the President’s illegal decree, trying to block the legislators from meeting, and not recognizing the removal of martial law after it was voted down.
That asshat doesn’t deserve an easy way out. He needs to witness the full legal & societal rebuke and shaming from his actions.
Fun times.

Maybe America should import some Korean legislators.
@Kathy: Maybe Americans should vote for fewer partisan hacks. The government a reflection of the people who elect it. In our case, those people may be a minority, but they’re still doing the electing.
