COVERAGE OF THE UNCOVERAGE

Steven Taylor reflects on the media coverage of the Janet Jackson — Justin Timberlake Super Bowl breast extravaganza and notes that it is a tad hypocritical for shows to simultaneously condemn the event and yet show the video of it over and over and over.

Certainly true. It occurs to me, though, that given the propensity of the media to hype these events, a particularly good gag would be to loop the Jackson-Timberlake video using the Howard Dean Iowa scream as the sound effect. It would certainly give new meaning to yeeeeeyeaaah.

  1. This is shades of the Starr Report for me. I remember reporters who just couldn’t wait to tell us how awful the salacious details were. I mean, they had to repeat them SEVEN OR EIGHT TIMES to make sure that we all understood exactly what it was Clinton and Lewinsky were alleged to have done.

This sort of information is vital to the survival of the Republic.

    Alleged? heh

  3. Congratulations Mark, my colleagues frequently tell me that my mind works in mysterious ways, but even I never thought of making that connection.

    I stand in awe.
