So, this happened:

Tommy Tuberville: Many airline pilots, flight attendants, and air traffic controllers are part of the furry community. It's terrifying.

Here’s the text, via MSNOW (Alabama’s Tuberville worries aloud about airline personnel joining ‘the furry community’):

What’s more concerning is that this [mentally-unwell] furry community touts the fact that many — listen to this — that many airline pilots, flight attendants, and air traffic controllers are part of the furry community. Lord help us. It’s terrifying when you think about this. When you walk on to a commercial flight, it’s possible that the pilot flying your plane could have a deranged fetish of dressing up like an animal. You can’t make this up.

I guess if the concern is that they are going to wear their costumes on the flight, he has a point. After all, space is limited! I mean, I barely have enough room to get down the aisle in street clothes!

Beyond that, I must confess that I have never thought, not even once, about what the potential kinks the pilot and flight staff might be into. What does Coach want, an announcement like this?

“Hello ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. I just wanted to let you know that my wife and I only engage in the most vanilla of coital relations, and even then it is only on the third Sunday of the month promptly at 8 pm, flight schedule allowing.

“Thank you for flying Delta!”

He also said a number of offensive things about trans people, but I will save commentary on that for a more substantive post.

Although to risk bringing the mood down a bit from dunking on Coach (oops! wrong sport!), I would note that one of Stanley’s seven elements of fascism is sexual anxiety.

(And may God have mercy on us all; this man is about to be governor of my state.)

In what now seems like the Age of Enlightenment ( ~ 15 years ago), John Cornyn wore the crown of Dumbest Senator. Now he’s not even top 5, with Senator Coach Tuberville battling Ron Johnson for the top spot. Yeah, Senator Coach will soon be Governor Coach, but Johnson will have to fight to retain his crown if Lindsay Graham’s sister is elected.

  2. Grover Norquist famously observed,

We don’t want a president who can think, we already know what the top1% want him to do. He only needs to be capable of signing with a pen.

I regard Reagan, W. Bush, and Trump as progressively worse proof GOPs have taken Norquist to heart. For their national figurehead they need someone who can sound sincere because he’s dumb enough to actually believe their nonsense. This obviously now also applies to senators.

Is it possible for anyone who is intelligent and intellectually honest to be a modern Republican?
