Frank Gaffney And Anti-Muslim McCarthyism On The Right
As I’ve noted before, the latest complaint from some on the right about next month’s Conservative Political Action Conference is the claim that it is being infiltrated by people with ties to groups like the Muslim Brotherhood.
Last night, Frank Gaffney, who served in the Reagan-era Defense Department before a career in the private secator, appeared on Anderson Cooper’s show with Suhail Khan, a conservative Muslim-American who serves on the board of the American Conservative Union to detail his charges:
I think Gaffney’s performance speaks for itself.
I think Gaffney’s performance speaks for itself.
After that line, I expected him to be frothing at the mouth. But actually Mr. Gaffney was calm and articulate, I just don’t happen to think the facts were on his side.
A “Muslim-American?” Hey, I get that it may just be a misplaced hyphen, but that’s pretty dumb.
The following Gaffney piece from a couple of years ago should permanently remove him from ever being taken seriously by anyone:
“With Mr. Obama’s unbelievably ballyhooed address in Cairo Thursday to what he calls ‘the Muslim world’…there is mounting evidence that the president not only identifies with Muslims, but actually may still be one himself.”

What is it with former Reagan Defense Department officials? Alan Keyes is also one.
