@CSK: Can someone explain the wrestling match at the White House to me? To me professional wrestling is that thing that came on TV late at night with guys who had muscles and ten extra pounds grabbling in obviously choreographed shows. My wife’s widowed aunt was a big fan, but no one else in my circle was. Aunt June was a big enthusiast. When did this become something of national importance deserving the attention of the POTUS and a venue in the center of our nation’s history? Isn’t it dominated by guys with Slavic names that are hard to pronounce for Anglophones? BTW, my family is full of those names. Will some future President turn the front lawn into a croquet pitch or a bocce field?
@CSK:
He also has a thing for professional wrestling (fake, scripted), which explains why the CEO of WWE has the title of US Sec of Education. But yes, the White House arena was built for UFC fighting, which is, apparently, real and competitive bloodsport.
@CSK: I guess he will also not be attending the White House Cage Match
Packwood seems so quaint compared to the crimes of today’s Republicans.
@CSK:
Yes. But there’s this much older “sport” where scantily clad participants pummel on each other, and the winner often is the one that causes the other to suffer a concussion.
Most Roman gladiators were slaves who had no choice and little say in the matter.
He’s the kayfabe president.

Because the Trump Crime Family is — as we call such types in the South — low rent whitetrash.
All the money in the world can’t buy class. He’s trashy and tasteless. Garbage. Like, what else would you expect from an incomptent, warmongering, economy-destroying pedophile. He’s a lifelong con artist, narcissistic nepo baby manifestly unfit and unqualified to be a president. He only got the job because many Americans are racist and sexist (and very stupid), indefensible in choosing him over extraordinary women superior to him in every way. Affirmative action for mediocre white dudes is as American as apple pie, sadly (for US progress and quality of life).
@Kathy: In a way it is exactly like Rome’s gladiatorial games, the emperors knew the key to power was the mob of Rome, and the mob wanted bread and circuses. Trump’s unique power of the US depends on his popularity within a certain mob, the ones that bother to show up for R primaries.
Meanwhile in the civilized world, the EU has made changes to the air travel delay compensation rules.
The amounts to be paid in compensation for delays remain unchanged, and vary depending on length of flight and length of the delay. What’s changed is the following:
In the event a passenger is eligible for compensation, airlines would need to send that person a link to the compensation claim form within 48 hours of the scheduled arrival time of the flight, to make it easier to file a claim (currently, there’s no requirement to actually inform passengers of what they’re entitled to, aside from having a section on the website addressing this)
Airlines would be required to provide the reason for the disruption, including specifying any extraordinary circumstances, assuming they don’t want to provide compensation payments
Once a passenger submits a compensation request, the airline would have 30 days to pay or justify a refusal

Bacause I air travel a few times a year, with at least one trip to and within Europe, plus domestic and Canadian travel I’ve started purchasing an annual travel insurance policy (from Allianz). It includes medical emergency and travel disruption items. If I have 30-35 travel days per year the policy cost is between $30 and $35 per travel day. I’m over 70 so it’s a peace of mind thing with me.
@Eusebio:
Although much to Hegseth’s dismay, I imagine, UFC still has rules. No targeting genitals; no seriously targeting joints; no eye gouging, ear ripping or throat crushing. Where are the examples for his real warfighters?
Wait, wait, wait. the fights aren’t to the death??
What kind of woke, girly, communist “sport” is this?
