We talk frequently about how Democrats are too much the rule-followers, while Republicans just do whatever they want, consequences be damned. My .02 on a Tuesday morning: Gov. Beshear needs to just go ahead and name McConnell’s successor now. Just do it.
Make Republicans prove that McConnell is still alive and up to the job. Go for it.
This entire situation is becoming more suspicious by the moment. Laura Loomer’s post yesterday (that rumors are circulating in the White House that he is on life support and “not coming back”) is certainly interesting.

I really don’t know what to do with the stuff about Elaine Chao in China. Imagine he did pass away. Does she know? Is somebody giving her updates that are completely fake? Or is that he’s dead and she has agreed not to come home because there won’t be a funeral anyway, and this looks better?
Both of those are ick.

Again, perhaps I have spent too much time in the political trenches, but I think it’s something a bit more cynical.
His wife is almost certainly his healthcare proxy. They cannot make any decisions about discontinuing life support without her there. She’s not there–>they keep the machines going–>he’s still alive
That allows the clock to run on replacing his senate seat.

I haven’t given it much thought, but I was just realizing how much batteries, especially rechargeable batteries, have changed the little things in the world.
I no longer have jumper cables, I have a lithium battery attached to short cables. As a side note, why haven’t lithium batteries replaced lead acid batteries.
I have a little handy rechargeable air pump for all kinds of tires including auto and bike tires.
Add in a rechargeable spark generator to light candles with. A little battery for travel to recharge my phone if an outlet is not available. And, of course, the phone itself. Christmas light strings, hand warmers, the list goes on.
Anybody else has any rechargeable fun gadgets?

More useful than fun, I have a pair of rechargeable LED lights that I use to illuminate the area where I’m taking pictures of old photographs and documents. Very convenient with no cords to get tangled or need to set up close to a power outlet. The batteries hold enough power for a few hours of use.

The US got eliminated in the world cup. They did well to get to the round of 16. Germany didn’t get to that round. A loss in the round of 16 is good. That’s as far as Brazil, Mexico, and Canada got. The great thing about sports is that we can be very passionate and loud, but after a defeat no cities are in ruin and there are no piles of corpses. It’s all in fun. Have fun. And enjoy good play. Applaud your team like the Cape Verdeans then wipe off the face paint and find someone else to cheer for.

Brazil’s national team are getting an earful of rage from the population.
In Mexico it’s more like mourning mixed with resignation.
And there’s the new play structure for this snoozefest. In prior ones, the first knockout round was the round of 16. Mexico had managed to pass that twice (both times when the snoozefest was held here). So losing at it seems to hurt more, regardless of having won in the extra knockout stage.

I have a similar take. What we didn’t want to happen, happened. He meddled in the match, making the Belgium side the good guys, and complicating things for our team and fans.
I’d be feeling better about the team if we hadn’t gone out with a whimper. In previous WC round-of-16 matches, the US played well enough against good teams to at least have a chance to draw even late in the match.

Yet another Republican squawking about illegal voting seems to have maybe illegally voted. Really not surprising, but one would think that as (checks notes) the Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton would know the law a bit better than most.

United lost a motion to dismiss a lawsuit concerning window seats without windows.
I fully sympathize with the plaintiffs and hope they win. I literally can count on one hand the times I’ve not picked a window seat. I’ve never had to seat next to a wall without a window, but I’ve suffered a few offset windows now and then.
I also haven’t flown in a while. I’m aware most seats now cost something over the fare, but I didn’t know window seats cost more. What I see when the boss or a manager asks me to get their boarding pass, is that either extra legroom seats or seats closer to the front cost more, but the whole row costs the same per seat.

It should be clear a ceasefire involves not firing. But what do I know.
I don’t think Iran is attempting to goad El Taco into resuming hostilities at scale. But I fear that’s what he may wind up doing because it worked so well the last time.
