Former Mexican President Vincente Fox has been among the most effective trolls against Donald Trump ever since Trump the candidate announced his policy that he would build a wall on the southern border that Mexico would pay for. Now, he’s out with a video that takes the game to a new level:
The United States just elected an outsider president, and now Vicente Fox is hoping it will elect a Mexican.
The former Mexican president announced his spoof candidacy in the 2020 U.S. presidential election on Thursday, in a five-minute video statement shellacking President Trump with profanity and mariachis belting out his “Vicente for Presidente” campaign song.
“Donald, every time I make fun of you, which I do a lot, people say, ‘Why can’t you be our president?’ ” said Fox, who emerged last year from a sleepy post-presidency on his ranch in central Mexico to become an Internet sensation as one of Trump’s most consistent and brutal comedic critics.
“America, I feel your pain. We all do. And that is why today I am proud to announce my candidacy for president of the United States,” said Fox, who pulled on a Trump-style red campaign cap that read: “Always ask before grabbing a pussy.”
Fox, president of Mexico from 2000 to 2006, reemerged into the public eye last year when he gave interviews to The Washington Post and another media outlet ripping Trump over his proposed border wall. He said Mexico would never pay for the wall, deploying very unpresidential and headline-grabbing F-bombs to punctuate his anger.
Since then, Fox has become a salty and often brutal alternative voice to Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, who has about 20 percent approval ratings in the polls and is widely seen in Mexico as not nearly tough enough on Trump. No country has been singled out for criticism by Trump more than Mexico, and Mexicans have responded by bashing Trump-effigy piñatas.
Fox has channeled that popular anger into videos that skewer Trump in the same blunt, street-style language that helped propel Fox, a former Coca-Cola executive and rancher, into power in Mexico in 2000.
“Now, I know, a lot of you will say, ‘How can you be president? You’re a Mexican,’ ” Fox says in his video announcement. “And to those people, I have three words: Donald [F—ing] Trump. If that worn-out baseball glove tightly gripping a turd can be president, then, amigos, anyone can!”
Fox goes on to make fun of Trump’s inauguration crowd size, his lack of progress on the border wall, his lack of substantial legislation passed and concludes: “Donald, you suck so much at this job.”

As political comedy goes this is pretty good. And if it serves to make Trump mad, it’s even better.
