A Trip Down Memory Lane
Colombian politics edition.
In writing the post about the first round of Colombia’s presidential elections, I was reminded that when I was in Colombia in 2010 to do some research and election observations, I saw Iván Cepeda campaigning in downtown Bogotá. He was running for the House of Representatives.
Indeed, I have a photo:
I regret not approaching him to see if he would have been willing to talk about his campaign and his experiences in Colombian politics.
In looking through some other photos, I also came across this poster from 2014 when he ran for the Senate.
For the record, he won the seat in both cases.
A bit of bio that I did not include in my post yesterday, Cepeda’s father, Manuel, had been the General Secretary of the Colombian Communist Party. He had been an elected member of the Colombian House of Representatives (92-94) and had been elected to the Senate in 1994. He was assassinated by paramilitaries not long after his election to the Senate.
