   Have just purchased Krups coffeemaker model #453 – it has a charcoal filter which leaves black charcoal soot in the bottom of the water container – is it necessary to use the filter? I don’t like charcoal soot in my coffee. Will appreciate a reply. Thank you.

   Interesting. I stopped using the filters after I ran out of refills and, frankly, can’t tell much difference.
