    This is a long think piece on the overthrow of Hungary’s Viktor Orban and it subsequent effect on MAGA in general.

    They Gave MAGA a Safe Haven. Now They’re in Retreat.

    Quick summary: Orban’s neo fascists are in retreat. American MAGA are down in the dumps about it. And American MAGA are starting to blame Donald Trump’s general personality and behavior for the movement’s decline.

    As right wing weird guy Rod Dreyer is quoted:

    For the future, Dreher locates the larger danger on his side of the Atlantic. “I think these alliances could carry on without Orbán, but they cannot carry on with Trump, whose big mouth and recklessness forces those parties and their leaders to side against the United States,” he writes. “The loss of Orbán is a problem, but not an insurmountable one; the presence of Trump, with his ignorance and arrogance, is probably a deal-killer.”

    An Admiral’s Rise Reveals the Politics Driving Hegseth’s Pentagon

    Adm. Daryl Caudle saw an opening to land the Navy’s top job last year, and he seized it.

    Before Pete Hegseth had even been sworn in as defense secretary, Admiral Caudle, then the head of a major Navy training command, offered to help Mr. Hegseth prepare for his politically contentious Senate confirmation hearing, according to current and former defense officials.

    The outreach was a breach of military ethics, the officials said. Senior military officers are supposed to avoid any hint of partisan bias or political activity.

    Nothing came of the offer. But soon after Mr. Hegseth took office, he fired the first woman to lead the Navy: Admiral Caudle’s boss. Days later, a senior officer on Admiral Caudle’s staff contacted Mr. Hegseth’s team in another breach of protocol.

    His pitch: Mr. Hegseth should choose Admiral Caudle to be the next chief of naval operations, the current and former officials said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive personnel matters.

    Even though Admiral Caudle was not on a list of candidates recommended by senior Navy officials, Mr. Hegseth chose him for the job.

      We are very fortunate that military culture and traditions are extremely difficult to change.

      There are thousands of junior officers who remain loyal to the constitution and not to the president personally, and from what I am hearing from very senior-ranking former officers, that is not going to change any time soon.

      Hegseth simply can’t fire enough people to destroy that culture without decimating the O-5 and senior ranks.

    From the AP (7/25/2026): SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazil’s Foreign Ministry said on Saturday it denied visas to two U.S. State Department officials that sought to travel to the South American nation next week, in the latest political barb between the two countries.

    The move became public after The Washington Post reported the Brazilian government saying the officials, Riley M. Barnes, an assistant secretary, and Samuel Samson, a deputy assistant, wanted to cast doubt on the upcoming October elections in Brazil.

    Brazil stopped this clown car before it could hit the road to Sao Paulo.
