    Fatso will be granted tax immunity by fellow Republicans. Which makes perfect sense given this.

    I need to start writing down my spur of the moment recipes. Some weeks ago I made ground beef patties with a garlic-infused beef broth base sauce. I tried to do the same last weekend, but I couldn’t recall what I’d done. I wound up with something similar, but the texture was off…

      I do this frequently…make something, typically spur of the moment or using whatever is on hand. It turns out well, and then I can’t for the life of me remember exactly what I did.

      My husband has taken to calling these “Brigadoon Meals.” 😀

        My kids or their friends used to ask me for recipes at which point I needed to recreate some approximation in writing of what I just fed them.

        When we first started living together, my wife-to-be laughed at my taking notes when I tried something new. She eventually admitted that the notes were why those dishes improved over time.

          My grandmother was a good cook and noted baker. She did the baking for the little restaurant my father once owned in a rural small town. My sister in law once asker her for her apple pie recipe. She didn’t have a written recipe. OK, make one and the SIL would write it down as she went. Stopping to think about it and actually measure stuff produced the worst pie she’d ever made.

        I will very often decide which spices to add when I’m gathering the mise en place and I see what’s in the pantry.

        I’ve also developed the knack for making something I’ll like, even if it’s not the same from iteration to iteration.

    Does Trump even have an endgame with Iran? Is he intending to just indefinitely do the pendulum-swing of threatening total annihilation then backing off and announcing talks are underway while Iranian officials deny any such thing is happening? How long can this farce really continue?

      Well, he’s no longer trying to blame NATO for his failures there. For now. He also hasn’t conceded he’s failing bigly.

      That is to say, he hasn’t found a simple phrase the base will cheer. For a while it seemed to be “Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.” Somehow he hasn’t repeated that for a while.

      The only pattern I’ve seen is he gets very aggressive and bombastic toward the weekend, threatening vaguely to do something big, unlike anything seen since WWII. Then he becomes conciliatory and touts great progress in peace talks, that may or may not be taking place, by Monday.

    How does someone who plays as much golf as he does have SUCH a horrible swing?

      Sciatica or arthritis in the lumbar spine*? Loss of grip strength from shaking so many hands? Poor muscle memory, either from age or because it was never strong to begin with? Can’t see well enough any more? Lots of things can explain poor swing.
      * A condition so unremarkable in people our (Trump’s and my) age that it may not even rate inclusion on a general health summary–it’s not on mine, for example.

    I’m thinking of making chili with black beans and corn rather than kidney beans. How does that sound?

      Delicious.

      I use white corn rather than sweet corn, pre-made. I haven’t made chili in a while, but I often add it to bean stews with some meat. I used the last of my turkey for that. I add it after the pressure cooker is done, when I adjust the last of the seasoning.

      I always use black beans and then whatever is handy…pinto, kidney, red, etc.

    El Taco’s hypermasculine war fighting war machine in the Gulf is running out of interceptors.

    This means if they keep going with this insanely conceived, incompetently executed war, Iran may gain the upper hand as their cheaper drones and missiles, which they seem to have less problem replenishing, strike more targets in US bases and the infrastructure of Gulf countries.

    I wonder if the People’s Liberation Army is building drones in large numbers.

    Arthur C. Clarke passed away in 2008, at age 90. I wonder what he would have thought of Gulf War III in connection with his 50s story Superiority.

      Much like A Feeling of Power Asimov story where techs and pilots relearn how to do math in their heads in combat conditions.

        In that story, the point (SPOILER ALERT!) was to replace the computers in missiles with people, which were cheaper and more plentiful.

        I can see the drunk or El Taco propose something like that.
