  4. Merry Christmas, OTB’ers! For the first time in my living memory, it’s RAINING here on Christmas. Very odd.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Today we celebrate the birthday of the man who centuries ago enlightened the world with his radical thoughts and teachings. His teachings affect and enrich our lives today in innumerable ways.
    Happy birthday Sir Issac Newton!

  8. I had a surprisingly good holiday lunch here in rehab: rare roast beef, baked potato with sour cream, asparagus, and, for dessert, a slice of Yule log. Very tasty. My compliments to the chef, if there is one.

We did more Christmas than we usually do. Took an Uber into Cascais which is rather lovely with lights everywhere. Lights are the one thing we two atheists really like about Christmas. Had Christmas dinner at a charming and atmospheric restaurant – foie gras, prawns, the inevitable bacalhau, lamb chops – then walked around the illuminated walls of the fort to the Cascais Christmas village which revealed the utter inability of the Portuguese to properly commercialize Christmas. There were low-key tableaux vivant of biblical scenes, more lights, a few food stalls, numerous completely inexplicable displays, a zip line, ducks, and almost no tchotchkes or souvenirs. Just people walking around in a chilly park through bright Christmas lights and remarkably few ways to spend money. It was all rather lovely.

I’d like Christmas so much more if it could be a genuine religious festival not corrupted by crass capitalism. Americans can ruin anything.

  11. Yesterday here at the north end of the Colorado urban corridor it was 65F with high clouds. I went for a ride to check out the city’s recent gift to the bicycle cult. (Don’t know if browsers will complain about this being insecure.)

  13. Merry Christmas, all!

Someone allegedly posted nearly 200 times yesterday, which seems a bit unhinged to me.
