      That was good. I especially like the bit where he says the “I’m a Talafreako” t-shirt is a top seller on their website. In response to Trump using a stupid nickname. Brilliant.

    Why is it people are advised to cut expenses like a latte and gas for the car if they can’t make rent or afford groceries, but we never hear anyone advice the oligarchs to cut down on the yachts, mansions, and spaceships if they can’t afford to pay their employees a living wage?

      Rather obviously, the rich have earned their yachts and fourth homes purely by the sweat of their brow and their own ingenuity! If the peons would just forgo their wasteful lattes someday, they too would be able to afford penis-shaped spacecraft and maybe even their own island!

      It is all so very obvious.

      The most recent explanation I heard was that some (in fact, many) jobs are simply not worth paying people to do but need to be done just the same.

      The current crop of celebrity billionaire job creators are making their money off computers, software, and the internet. All were basically invented and initially developed by the government at taxpayer expense. You’d think they might show some gratitude.

        I do so love the US right default response that “It’s all based on American free enterprise! Screw you euro-poors who can’t do anything!”
        When the internet was based on US government project, and the web/html that is the basis of the post-1990’s net the was actually developed by British researcher at the European internationally state funded CERN.

      As per ever: “The strong do what they will, the weak suffer as they must.”
      Until the “weak” get pissed off enough to break out the torches and pitchforks.

      The alternative explanation, of course, is that in a market economy, the low skilled will just make market-clearing wages, and that trying to enforce lower returns on capital will break the investment system, or just fail to rectify the problem, or lead to the enforcers engrossing the returns.

    I’m not sure how useful gradual info release on an air accident is. The NTSB has released some flight recorder and voice data .

    This is nowhere close to a full picture. What did the instruments indicate, what did ATC say, what exactly were the weather conditions, how much time in the air did the pilots have before this flight. And a lot more.

    What I can see is the cockpit resource management looks terrible. Check the voice recorder notes at 01:42

    01:42 A pilot called for flaps to be set to 20 degrees, and the other pilot cautioned they were too fast. The other pilot made additional comments regarding the aircraft’s excessive speed throughout the remainder of the recording. There was not a consistent verbal response to the comments about speed.

    Especially the last line.

    Consensus on the aviation blogs is the first officer was giving the warnings, and the captain did not respond appropriately. This could be because a high workload did not permit it, and he was trying to reduce the speed and fly the plane. Or it may be someone too confident in their own ability who needs the first officer to handle radios and do his part and shut up.

    Also note the automated safety warnings. “sink rate” means the plane is descending too fast. That’s not something you should hear while descending on purpose for a landing.

    And “too low, terrain” means the ground is way too close for the speed the plane is flying at.

    Last, it feels the flight crew had not configured the plane for landing, and were still doing so seconds prior to touch down. This might explain why one main gear did not make contact with the runway until seconds ager the nose gear did.

    What a mess.

      My first reaction to this is that the contractor has some kind of professional malpractice insurance and needs to make this admission to collect on the policy.

    In a few weeks it will be the 15th anniversary of the day they named a street in honor of my cousin, Francisco (Frank), who died in Tower One on 9/11.

    The street is at the corner where you exit the 7 train to walk to his house, the house I also grew up in from ages 6 months to 6 years.

    25 years later, and I still think of him, literally, every day.

    The Houthis are now approaching Dhubab, just 20 miles from the Bab-al-Mandab shore.

    Incidentally, the translation of Bab-al-Mandab is “The Gates of Grief.”

    As we may be finding out quite soon.
    This is unlikely to end well.
