Today’s dose of schadenfreude, white South Africans applying for refugee status in the US are having their applications declined.
The piece lacks solid numbers. When reasons are offered, they say nothing about the validity of the claim as far as refuge goes.

New testosterone guidelines temporarily rescinded, Pentagon says
The Defense Department has temporarily rescinded guidelines it introduced a day ago for a new requirement that male service members ages 30 and older get screened for testosterone deficiency.
The guidelines are being updated, and the final clinical guidance will be issued shortly, the Pentagon said.
“The Department remains committed to addressing hormone deficiencies, protecting the long-term health of its Service members, and enabling peak operational performance,” the Defense Department said. “The ‘Interim Guidance on Testosterone Deficiency Screenings for Active Duty and Reserve Component Personnel’ remains in effect. The final clinical guidance will be issued shortly.”
Hegseth had called for the change earlier this summer. The Defense Health Agency released a set of clinical guidelines for the tests, which will take place during service members’ regular health assessments.
What seems odd to me is that that Hegseth and company felt the need to make a big announcement about this rather than a simple update to the criteria for annual physicals performed at military bases around the world.
As Gov Walz pointed out during the 2024 election: These people are weird.

Nope, no cigar. I’m not sure what the trick is, MarkedMan.
A datapoint for my hypothesis that 95% of all “We must treat everyone with respect” is really! “We want someone else we can treat with disrespect!” At our favorite local ramen shop last night the staff were all wearing new T-Shirts emblazoned with “The Only Good Men are Ra-Men!” Didn’t really think much about it until this morning when I was reading an Atlantic piece about misogyny.
As I’ve often said, if the human reaction to being treated unjustly was to try and make sure that you didn’t treat anyone else unjustly, we would have had peace on earth millennia ago. But that’s not how the human animal works.
Rick Perlstein has a short Substack post on a difference, perhaps the defining difference, between us and conservatives.
Conservatives see the world as a remorseless zero-sum battle of all against all.
Perlstein cites gun control and big SUVs, but perhaps a clearer example is masks. “You should wear a mask to protect others.” “Huh, whut? Does not compute.”
If people are being treated unjustly, the only thing to do is to win.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R–Ky.) says he will force the House of Representatives to vote on impeaching Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
